![]() ![]() More than 80 students attended the workshop, including prospective students who are curious to learn about Chinese culture. It is observed by ethnic Chinese everywhere in the world, and also by the Vietnamese. According to Chinese tradition, the roundness of the full moon is strictly connected to a sense of completeness and togetherness, thus Mid-Autumn Festival. As a way to experience this tradition, students collaborated in groups to make their own lanterns and all did an amazing job! Students brought lanterns home as a souvenir from the Mid-Autumn Festival Culture Workshop. Mid-autumn festival is Chinas harvest festival. One of the notable traditions is to carry brightly-lit lanterns. Students also appreciated the diverse traditions of the festival across many Chinese speaking communities. After getting familiar with the story and the origin of the festival, students gathered in small groups to talk about the story in Chinese and everyone did a great job! There were a lot of creative ideas that applied a modern twist to the story. The festival, marking the end of the autumn harvest, occurs during the middle of autumn when the moon is at its fullest. Also known as the Moon Festival or Mooncake Festival, it is one of the most important holidays in Chinese culture and also celebrated in other countries in East and Southeast Asia.Ĭhang’e Flying to the Moon (嫦娥奔月) is one of the legends in Chinese mythology associated with the festival.
